The Sella River Descent is an exciting canoe adventure from Arriondas to Llovio (Ribadesella). A 15 KM journey down the Sella River to enjoy the best Asturian landscapes with family or friends. With minimal difficulty navigating the river, this activity is suitable for everyone—even your dog!
If this route seems too long, we offer the option to shorten it with exit points (pick-up zones) at 7 kilometers or 15 kilometers, located on private properties we own.

The 2025 International Sella Descent will take place this year on Saturday, August 9. You can find all the details at this link: Sella Day 2025, and even make your reservation online. You’ll enjoy a privileged position to follow the festivities and witness the descent, launching onto the river right behind the champions!
If you decide to do the Sella River Descent by canoe, you’ll spend an unforgettable day on the river. You can choose to start directly from the water or, if you’re feeling adventurous, try launching from the ramp. Beforehand, our staff will explain the basic paddling techniques and give you the necessary instructions on how to handle the canoe.
During the journey, in addition to paddling and enjoying the scenery, you can also take a swim… Keep in mind that the trip usually lasts around three to four hours, allowing time for everything. Additionally, there are two pick-up points where you can disembark.
- At the arrival point you choose, we’ll be waiting to pick you up and transport you back to our activity center.
- If you’d like to freshen up upon your return, you’ll need a change of clothes and shower essentials.
- Reception opens at 10:00 AM, and departures are scheduled between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
- The permitted time to stay on the river is from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
- We offer a photography service during July and August, allowing you to take home a picture of yourself on the river.

Departure times will be set between 11:00 and 13:00 and you can stay in the river until 18:00, at which time any canoe must remain out of the water.

Sella River Descent with Kids
Enjoy an unforgettable day with the little ones in your family by doing the Sella River Descent by canoe.
There is no minimum age; however, the minimum height required is 1.15m.
Children have a special price of €15 and will be provided with a life jacket perfectly suited to their needs.
We also have special booster seats for transporting children in our vans.
The youngest participants will love doing the Sella descent and launching their canoe down our starting ramp. Please note that for children to participate in the Sella descent, it is absolutely essential that they know how to swim (swimming ability is mandatory for everyone doing the Sella descent).

Sella River Descent with Your Dog
The Sella River Descent is an activity for the whole family, and that includes our four-legged friends.
At Jaire Aventura, your dog is more than welcome! They can join you in the canoe, and at the end of the activity, we’ll take you both back with no hassle.
We also provide special flotation assistance jackets for pets. If you want your dog to enjoy the descent with complete safety, you can rent a life jacket for just €4. Simply request one at reception.

What Tips Should You Keep in Mind Before Canoeing Down the Sella River?
The Sella River Descent is an activity suitable for the whole family. It’s important to note that you don’t need much experience to enjoy it, as it’s not particularly challenging. However, necessary precautions must still be taken, as there’s always a chance that someone might fall into the water. One of the main tips is to know how to swim.
Although it may not seem essential, one recommendation is to bring sunscreen and a cap. Being in contact with water, even if you’re not directly exposed to the sun, could still cause some burns. It’s also crucial to bring dry clothes to change into once you finish the descent.
One of the most important tips is to take the descent calmly, keeping in mind that it’s not a competition.
Everything You Need to Know About the Sella River Descent by Canoe

You can choose to make the complete descent
It is approximately 15 kilometres long, starting in Arriondas and ending in Llovio. This route takes about 4 hours. If, on the other hand, you think this route is too long, you can always stop earlier, as we have two departures where a team of our professionals will be happy to meet you.

The difficulty is very low
If you have no previous experience, our team of instructors will give you all the necessary instructions and will tell you which routes are the safest. Don't hesitate to ask them any questions you may have.

We have 3 types of canoes available
1-person canoes, if you want to do the tour alone; 2-person canoes, to do it with a companion, whether it be your partner, a family member, a child or a dog; and 3-person canoes, to do it with whoever you want.

It is essential that all people who get into the canoe know how to swim.
The minimum height for children is 115cm.

As for the equipment, we will give it to you.
You will be equipped with life jackets, containers to store your belongings, wetsuits (if the weather requires it), paddles and canoes… We also have life jackets for children and even for dogs!

Type of clothing you should wear
Don't forget to wear comfortable clothing or clothing that can get wet, as it is impossible to avoid water splashing and sooner or later you will end up getting wet. As for footwear, try to wear rubber or similar material.

If you go down the Sella by canoe in winter
It will be a good idea to bring a raincoat to protect yourself from the splashes and the cold. If, however, you are going down in summer, a swimsuit and a T-shirt will suffice. Don't forget your hat and sun cream!
